Welcome to our useful travel information page, giving you travel directions by car from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness to Lairg, as well as train and air travel information.

BY CAR

From Glasgow (230 miles)

In light traffic, your car journey from Glasgow to Lairg should take around 5 hours 10 minutes.

Follow the M8 eastbound out of Glasgow, and take the M80 turn-off heading for Stirling and the Kincardine Bridge. Follow the M80 until signs for M9 Perth and Stirling, and then follow those signs for M9 Perth. Then take the A9 heading towards Perth, and once in the Perth area you should then follow signs for A9 Inverness. Follow the A9 northbound past Dunkeld, Pitlochry, Blair Atholl, Dalwhinnie, Newtonmore, Kingussie, Aviemore and Carrbridge, and then continue on the A9 through Inverness, across the Kessock Bridge which spans the Cromarty Firth, and continue northbound. Signs should now be pointing to the A99 Thurso and Wick. Keep following the A9 northbound, crossing the Dornoch Firth, and just under 10 miles later, turn left onto the A839, following signs for Lairg and Rogart. Signs will now guide you from here to Lairg.

From Edinburgh (216 miles)

Assuming normal traffic conditions, your car journey from Edinburgh to Lairg should take around 5 hours.

Follow the A90 northbound across the Forth Road Bridge, and then continue to follow the A90 in the direction of Perth. Then follow signs for A9 Inverness. Follow the A9 northbound past Dunkeld, Pitlochry, Blair Atholl, Dalwhinnie, Newtonmore, Kingussie, Aviemore and Carrbridge, and then continue on the A9 through Inverness, across the Kessock Bridge which spans the Cromarty Firth, and continue northbound. Signs should now be pointing to the A99 Thurso and Wick. Keep following the A9 northbound, crossing the Dornoch Firth, and just under 10 miles later, turn left onto the A839, following signs for Lairg and Rogart. Signs will now guide you from here to Lairg.

From Inverness (62 miles)

In light traffic, your journey from Inverness to Lairg should take around 1 hour 30 minutes.

Take the A9 northbound across the Kessock Bridge which spans the Cromarty Firth, and continue northbound. Signs should now be pointing to the A99 Thurso and Wick. Keep following the A9 northbound, crossing the Dornoch Firth, and just under 10 miles later, turn left onto the A839, following signs for Lairg and Rogart. Signs will now guide you from here to Lairg.

BY TRAIN

Lairg has a train station on the Far North Line, with direct trains running to Inverness, Wick and Thurso. The station lies between Invershin and Rogart stations. Connections from Inverness will take you to Kyle of Lochalsh, Glasgow Queen Street, Edinburgh Waverley, Aberdeen, Perth and London King’s Cross.



BY AIR

Inverness Airport is 70 miles from Lairg, with a selection of UK domestic connections, and a more limited and variable selection of connections with European cities.

Aberdeen Airport is the closest, larger airport to Lairg, being 160 miles from the village. Aberdeen Airport has good UK domestic and European connections.

Wick Airport is a smaller airport 72 miles from Lairg. Wick Airport has connections with, at the time of writing, direct flights to Aberdeen with Eastern Airways, and Edinburgh with Flybe / Loganair.
