Lairg is a peaceful village, picturesquely situated in Sutherland in the Northern Highlands of Scotland.

  • Dunrobin Castle Dunrobin Castle

    Dunrobin Castle is a beautiful 19th century castle situated close to the village of Golspie. The largest house in the Northern Highlands, the Castle has 189 rooms and was for some time used as a naval hospital. It has been open to the public since 1973, and uniquely, has its very own railway station.

    Loch Shin is the largest loch in Sutherland, draining into the Kyle of Sutherland and then the Dornoch Firth. Close to Lairg, Loch Shin has excellent salmon fishing by fly road, and has gentle lochside walks as well as being close to the impressive Falls of Shin, famous for its leaping salmon climbing through rocky gorges.

    Dornoch is a peaceful town located at the heart of an ancient royal burgh. Dornoch Cathedral stands at the heart of the town, containing beautiful woodwork and stained glass windows, and Skibo Castle is also closeby - made famous by Madonna and Guy Ritchie who married there in 2000.

    The Royal Dornoch Golf Club has been said to be among the top dozen most beautiful golf courses in the world. One of Scotland's finest, it has a championship course and a second 18 hole course called The Struie. Royal Dornoch was voted Golf Tourism Scotland Course of the Year and has hosted the likes of Scott Verplank.

  • Far North Line Far North Line

    The Far North Line is the northernmost train line in the UK. It runs from Inverness through Dingwall and Invergordon up to Tain, and then swings inland to Lairg, before rejoining the coast at Golspie. It passes Dunrobin Castle and Helmsdale, and then divides in two at Georgemas Junction, with one line running to Thurso, and the other to Wick.
